With his wife by his side, Pastor Joel Peebles talked for the first time about how a small group of employees took control of his mother's church, Jericho City of Praise, after she died of colon cancer in 2010.

Tisha Thompson: "Did your mother ever say to you, ‘Joel I want you to take my place?  Joel, I want you to be in charge?’"

Joel Peebles:  "About a thousand times.  She believed in passing the mantle.  Not that church is a birthright. Ministry is a calling."

Tisha Thompson: "Did your mother ever say to you, ‘I'm changing the plan?’"

Joel Peebles:  “Absolutely not."

Pastor Joel Peebles Preaches to Thousands Without A Church Home

Apparently, Pastor Joel Peebles, who was fired by the church his mother and father founded years ago, has staying power. Even though the Jericho City of Praise church board allegedly found a reason to kick the pastor out of his church, he is going forth.
Pastor Joel Peebles picked up where he left off and preached to a full house this past Sunday at "the ballroom, overflow room and the hotel Lobby of the Metro Points Hotel in New Carrollton", says our friends at The Church Lady Blogs.

Firstly, we just want to say that we appreciate the Church Lady Blogs for keeping us totally up to date on latest going on at Jericho City of Praise. The hard work and networking the CLB and Jericho City of Praise members have put into keeping us all informed, has to be commended.
Now, let's get to the sad and pathetic news that another pastor, Dr. Michael Freeman may have allegedly, as the Church Lady would put it: 'orchestrated' the ousting of the late Apostle Betty Peebles' son and pastor Joel Peebles. From what the CLB has reported through sources, it could very well be the case and you know what: we believe it.

Jericho City of Praise Church Board Fires Pastor Due to IRS Violation?

The Reasoning Behind Jericho City of Praise Terminating Pastor Joel Peebles, Says Board

Since there has been so much ruckus going on over at Jericho City of Praise, we thought we'd take a peak at what's new on the church's website. We found that the church board at Jericho City of Praise has an alleged reason behind terminating Pastor Joel Peebles. According to the press release below, Jericho Baptist Church Ministries, Inc. said they 'cleared his office and removed his possessions' from the premises because they say: "Elder Peebles attempted to operate a for-profit company from the Church. This action is a clear violation of IRS 501(c)(3) regulations and threatened the very existence of Jericho, and the Board was forced to act."

Jericho City of Praise's Pastor Joel Peebles Gets Fired By Church Board

We are appalled at the actions of this board. They are childish and underhanded individuals who seem to only exist because they have some control over this church. What a shame and God sees all.

A board of trustees selected by the late Apostle Betty R. Peebles, co-founder of Jericho City of Praise in Landover, on Wednesday fired her only surviving child, the Rev. Joel R. Peebles, as acting pastor and stripped him of membership in the church his parents created more than 40 years ago.

Peebles, 42, the sole survivor of the Peebles family, said he was notified in writing of his dismissal just after 1 p.m. Wednesday, when he arrived at the church to begin preparing for an evening Bible study session.

“I came here to go to church, and I got terminated,” the Mitchellville resident said Wednesday as he stood under the awning between the church’s two-story administration building, where his mother presided over church operations, and the sprawling sanctuary. “I was told to leave, and the police escorted me out. They told me I was not pastor here nor a member of the church. . . . The officer told me I was trespassing.”
