Video: SEC Accuses Former CEO Ephren Taylor of Bilking New Birth Members: The Failure of the Black Church To Discern Evil

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission charged Ephren Taylor for allegedly cheating church members of New Birth Missionary Baptist Church and various of other churches out of millions of dollars.  Ephren Taylor has been known to promise wealth to many church people whom trusted their pastor who presented this man's strategic plan to promise them millions in return.

We question the pastors and bishops like Bishop Eddie Long who trusted this man and believed in his scam.  If they were not so quick to allow him to promote his illegal operation, then many of their church members would not have been scammed out of their money.   Anyone who is truly a child of God can read the spirit of this man, he does not seem like a man of integrity when we look at him.  It is not just how he looks, it is his spirit we sense.   God has blessed his children with the gift to discern wickedness and if these prominent church leaders are truly appointed to be in the ministry, then why didn't they listen to the voice of God to block Ephren Taylor from scamming their church members?  Think about it, this is why we have so many confused people in the body of Christ now, simply because their pastors and bishops are not called to minister, but they allegedly manipulate the minds of people to give money, even if it is to pay bills and by doing so, they meet up with con artists like Ephren Taylor whom are doing the same thing.   Eleven million dollars is a lot of money to con out of church members.  There were some who were previous members of New Birth that allegedly admitted they no longer trust Bishop Eddie Long or belong to the church, because he stood behind this man, Ephren Taylor. Bishop Long called him his brother and a friends as seen on this following video.  These specific church members whom spoke on MyFOXAtlanta.com talked about how they gave their life savings and some even lost their homes.

What are we saying is this, God is looking at all of the con artists, not just those like Ephren Taylor, but those whom allegedly conned with him by allowing him to stand before their church members and take their money.   These church members whom lost their money are not financially struggling because of the recession, but because Ephren Taylor allegedly scammed them and because there was no minister to discern his crooked spirit first, now he faces charges while these church members have not gotten their money back.

Is this what the black church does to their own members in the 21st century?   Is this what we are left with when it comes to joining a church and trusting a pastor to not only feed us with spiritual food, but to protect us from evil?   Saints of God, it is time to pray against this demonic spirit that has been flowing so freely throughout sanctuaries.   Ephren Taylor not only allegedly bilked churchgoers, because their pastors also did not discern his spirit before allowing him to speak before them.

SEC Charges Ephren Taylor II For Allegedly Bilking Churchgoers In $11 Million Ponzi Scheme

By Jonathan Stempel

April 12 (Reuters) - A self-described "Social Capitalist" who has appeared on national TV talk shows was charged on Thursday with fraud by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission for an alleged $11 million Ponzi scheme that targeted socially-conscious churchgoers.

The SEC said Ephren Taylor II fraudulently sold $7 million of notes said to bear 12 percent to 20 percent annual interest rates, to fund small businesses such as laundries, juice bars and gas stations.

It said Taylor, 29, also raised $4 million by selling "sweepstakes" machines loaded with casino-style games, with promised returns of 72 percent to 2,400 percent per year.

The SEC said Taylor's company, City Capital Corp, would promise to donate some revenue to charity. In reality, according to the com plaint filed in Atlanta federal court, Taylor diverted money to promote his books, hire image consultants, fund his wife's singing career...Read full article, here.

Does God Allow Gambling and Investing in The Church?

We have started to hear in recent years that many churchgoers are putting their faith in the church. Well, this seems all well and good but what exactly are they putting their faith in?  Is it God or what someone has told them? The correct answer should be having faith in God alone but at some pivotal point in time, church congregants are allowing outsiders who come into the church to persuade them to invest their money into a pipe dream. This, my friends should have never happened.

In recent news, the scandalous Bishop Eddie Long of New Birth Missionary Baptist Church and others are being investigated for their involvement in a Ponzi scheme like investment funds and gaming machines where they allowed someone to come into the church and have church members 'invest' their life savings. This also includes a mortgage schemes where members have lost their homes because an investor was invited to the church and convinced many they could reduce their home payments.
Let's get the definition of a Ponzi schem:
"A Ponzi scheme is a fraudulent investment operation because it pays returns to its investors from their own money or the money paid by subsequent investors, rather than from any actual profit earned by the individual or organization running the operation. The Ponzi scheme usually entices new investors by offering higher returns than other investments, in the form of short-term returns that are either abnormally high or unusually consistent. Perpetuation of the high returns requires an ever-increasing flow of money from new investors to keep the scheme going.
Many of us have heard of this in the business world but it has now crept into the church, but the big question is-why?

Bishop Long's Partner Ephren Taylor Says "He's Making Things Right"

Ephren Taylor
In an interview with The Associated Press, Ephren Taylor has spoken out about what he's doing to address the lawsuit claims against him by New Birth members and possibly hundreds others. There are 10 New Birth Missionary Baptist Church members that say Ephren Taylor and their pastor Bishop Eddie Long conspired to defraud them through "wealth-building" seminars and sermons in 2009.

"In my case and that of my former company, some of the negative effects of a situation with very complex economics impacted businesses, individuals and families despite our best intentions," Taylor said in a statement to The Associated Press.

The church members say in a DeKalb County lawsuit that Ephren Taylor Jr. urged them to liquidate their retirement accounts, and as a result some lost their life savings.
"Don't assume that I am just another greedy businessman," Taylor said in the statement. "I am taking action to make things right."

Youngest African American CEO Ephren Taylor Hit with Class Action Lawsuit Alleging Serial Ponzi Schemes That Bilked Churchgoers Out of Millions

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., Oct. 20, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- A class action lawsuit alleges that Ephren W. Taylor II, famous for becoming "America's youngest African American CEO of a public company," was in reality the ringleader of a series of cynical Ponzi schemes that stole tens of millions of dollars from hard-working churchgoers.  Taylor was prominently featured in media outlets including NPR, Fox, ABC, CNN, Forbes and others, and was apparently tapped to create and manage a $1 million endowment fund for rapper Snoop Dogg's Youth Football League.

The lawsuit, filed this month in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina, accuses Taylor and other individuals and financial institutions who allegedly helped him perpetrate his Ponzi schemes with wire fraud, interstate transportation of stolen property, money laundering, racketeering, violations of the RICO Act and a number of other serious violations.
