The First Ultrabook with Optical Drive

Samsung is getting serious work on the thin laptop market, or so-called ultrabook, type of laptop which was first introduced by Intel.

The seriousness of the South Korean manufacturer is evidenced by launching new ultrabook, namely Samsung Ultrabook Series 5.

There are two variants are introduced, Series 5 with a 13.3-inch wide and 14 inches. The thickness of each was 14.9 mm and 20.9 mm.

Competition for ultra-book market is estimated to be fierce next year and Samsung did not want to miss the start.

Unfortunately, the price of super thin notebook is still super expensive. The price of a unit ultrabook still above U.S. $ 1,000, well above the purchasing power of most people.

Ultrabook Samsung Series 5, for example, which will be launched later this month in South Korea and other countries in early 2012, sold for U.S. $ 1,125 or Rp. 10 million more for a screen 13 inches. While the 14-inch model sold for U.S. $ 1,341 or Rp. 11.9 million.

To be referred to as ultrabook, there are certain criteria and standards established by Intel to be met by all manufacturers, including Samsung, among others, about the thickness and performance.

Samsung Series 5 with 13.3-inch screen has a thickness of 14.9 millimeters, weighs 1.4 pounds, and uses an Intel Core i5 CPU (central processing unit).

Interestingly, this is the first ultrabook using combined optical and hard drives with solid state drive (SSD).

For 13-inch screen variant, the Samsung installing a hard disk drive of 500 GB with 16 GB SSD and comes integrated graphics.

Other features provided are USB ports, Ethernet, VGA, and HDMI, plus Wi-Fi. While high-definition display with 1,366 x 768 pixel density is equipped with a layer antirefleksi.

Meanwhile, Samsung Ultrabook Series 5 with 14-inch screen has a thickness of 20.9 millimeters, weighs 1.8 pounds, and 1 TB hard drive with 16 GB SSD.

Same with version 13.3-inch, 14-inch version is also equipped with an optical disk drive. Another feature that is pinned AMD's HD 7750M graphics card, USB ports, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, and HDMI connectors.
